Judgment won't launch after NVIDIA 616.56? Update the driver

Direct answer: NVIDIA says Judgment, Lost Judgment, and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. may fail to launch after driver 616.56. Preserve your saves and launch evidence, confirm the exact game and driver, then install NVIDIA's official 617.14 driver or a later compatible official release that carries the fix. Restart Windows and repeat the same launch test once.

Unbranded gaming PC showing three game launch warnings and an official graphics driver update path
Scope. Use NVIDIA's fixed-driver path only when the PC runs Windows 10 or 11 with a supported NVIDIA GPU, the installed driver is 616.56, and the game is Judgment, Lost Judgment, or Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Preserve local and cloud saves, record the launch symptom, close the game and launcher, then install official driver 617.14 or a later compatible official release that includes the fix. Restart Windows and launch the same game through the same launcher once. Another game, another driver, or a failure that remains needs a different diagnosis.
Protect saves and security settings. Do not delete saves, disable cloud sync, remove mods, reinstall the game, run DDU, edit the registry, or disable antivirus, anti-cheat, Secure Boot, or driver signing as the first response. Do not use an unofficial driver package. Those changes add risk and do not test NVIDIA's named regression cleanly.

Match all parts of NVIDIA's fixed bug

NVIDIA's 617.14 release notes describe a narrow launch failure after driver 616.56. Confirm every part before treating the driver as the cause.

SymptomThe named game fails to launch after the 616.56 update.A crash during play, account error, anti-cheat code, or launcher outage needs another branch.

A game can fail to launch for many reasons. Launcher access, files, permissions, accounts, anti-cheat, mods, overlays, storage, and Windows problems can produce a similar result. The game name and driver version create the useful boundary.

Protect local and cloud saves first

Close the game and launcher. Confirm whether the game uses cloud saves and whether synchronization completed. Keep local save folders and any manual backups untouched. If a launcher reports a cloud conflict, stop and resolve that conflict before changing the driver.

Do not delete mods, configuration files, shader caches, or the game installation before testing the official fixed driver. If the game worked before 616.56 and now does not open, a clean version change gives better evidence than several unrelated changes made at once.

Record the driver and launch response

Write down the exact game title, Windows version, NVIDIA GPU model, driver version, launcher, and time of the failed launch. Capture any visible error. If the process appears in Task Manager and then closes, note that behavior without ending unrelated system processes.

Check the installed driver version in the NVIDIA App or the NVIDIA driver information available on the PC. Keep a screenshot or note. The article's fix depends on 616.56, so "recent driver" is not specific enough.

If the PC is unstable outside the game, loses video output, restarts, or shows hardware warnings, stop treating this as a single-game launch issue. Use the driver update broke Windows guide and protect access before another driver change.

Install the official fixed driver

NVIDIA published Game Ready Driver 617.14 on September 22, 2026 and lists the three-game launch problem as fixed. Use the NVIDIA App or NVIDIA's official driver download. Choose 617.14 or a later compatible official driver that still carries the fix for your GPU and Windows version.

Laptop makers and workplace administrators may control the supported driver path. Follow the computer maker's instructions or the organization's software process when the system uses customized or managed graphics drivers. Do not force a generic package past an OEM or administrator boundary.

Close games, launchers, video editors, and GPU-heavy work before installation. Keep the PC connected to reliable power. Read the installer result when it finishes. If the official package reports a failed component or cannot detect compatible hardware, stop and use the NVIDIA driver installation guide instead of repeating the installer.

Restart and repeat the same launch test once

Restart Windows after the driver installation. Confirm the installed version again. Then open the same launcher and start the same game in the same way. Keep mods, launch options, overlays, and account state unchanged for this first retest.

Record whether the game now reaches its first menu, closes at the same point, shows a new error, or behaves differently. A successful launch supports the vendor's fixed-driver match. It does not prove that every future crash or another game problem has the same cause.

What if the game still will not launch?

Stop repeating driver installs. Verify the exact game, current driver, launcher status, account access, and visible error. Check the game's official support and current service status. Preserve the save record before any file verification, reinstall, or mod isolation step.

If only one game fails, focus on that game and launcher. If several games or graphics applications fail, widen the scope to Windows, the driver installation, GPU stability, and storage. One clean fixed-driver test is evidence. It is not a reason to stack cleanup tools and security changes.

Keep unrelated NVIDIA issues separate

NVIDIA's 617.14 forum record lists an Assassin's Creed Shadows extended-play crash after 616.56 as a separate open issue. The three-game launch fix does not establish a fix for that crash. It also does not cover a virtual display failure, black screen, installation error, or a game that launches and then crashes later.

Use the product name, driver version, timing, and exact failure point to keep those cases apart. This protects the evidence and prevents a valid fix for one bug from turning into unsupported advice for another.

Use OmniMend only for the remaining evidence

NVIDIA controls the driver and the fixed-bug record. OmniMend does not install an NVIDIA driver, start the game, edit saves or game files, change mods, bypass anti-cheat, or guarantee a repair.

On a supported Windows 10 or 11 x64 PC, OmniMend can collect and organize local Windows, graphics, driver, crash, update, and event evidence when the version match is unclear or the launch failure remains. Diagnosis starts read-only. Any supported repair change requires approval and a result check.

If you need that separate evidence record, review OmniMend's diagnostic scope or download OmniMend. Keep account credentials, save files, personal documents, and private support details out of any shared report.

Checked September 27, 2026 against NVIDIA's Game Ready Driver 617.14 page, 617.14 release notes, and official 617.14 feedback thread. NVIDIA supplies the 616.56 version boundary, the three named games, bug 6681537, the 617.14 fixed release, and the separate Assassin's Creed Shadows warning. OmniMend added the save-preservation order, evidence record, controlled retest, unmatched-symptom routes, and product boundary.
